“Empowerment of and investment in girls are key in breaking the cycle of discrimination and violence and in promoting and protecting the full and effective enjoyment of their human rights”

United Nations Resolution 66/170 International Day of the Girl Child

auma-graceIn 2011, the UN declared October 11 the International Day of the Girl Child to recognize girls’ rights and to highlight the challenges girls face around the world. This year’s theme “Empowering adolescent girls: Ending the cycle of violence” is a fitting description of very work that we do at ChildVoice.

Since 2007, we have provided war-affected adolescent girls with the opportunity to rebuild their lives through counseling, life skills training, and education. At ChildVoice, we know all too well the increased risks of violence and exploitation that girls face particularly in conflict zones. But we also know that when given the right tools, support and opportunity, these young women are able to start anew and create a better lives for themselves and their young children.

In fact, when a girl or a women is able to earn an income, they are likely to reinvest 90% of their income into their families, according to research published by the World Bank.

Please help us spread the word about International Day of the Girl Child and the importance of investing in girls by sharing the video above from the Girl Effect.
